Build your first household readiness plan

A calm, one-sitting process for mapping people, supplies, contacts, and the next practical improvement.

This guide is general educational information, not individualized emergency, medical, or engineering advice. Follow current instructions from local authorities and qualified professionals.

Start with people, not products

List the people and animals your plan must support. Note mobility, communication, temperature, dietary, and medication needs without copying unnecessary medical records into the app.

Choose one trusted out-of-area contact and meeting places for situations where household members cannot return home. Keep a printed copy where it can be reached without a phone.

  • Household count and accessibility needs
  • Out-of-area contact
  • Indoor, neighborhood, and out-of-neighborhood meeting places
  • School, workplace, and caregiver procedures

Inventory the five essentials first

Do not try to catalog every object. Begin with water, familiar shelf-stable food, medicines and first aid, light and charging, and ways to receive official information.

Record the amount, location, expiration or rotation date, and any preparation dependency such as water, fuel, batteries, or a can opener.

  • Stored drinking water
  • Food your household will eat
  • Essential medicine and first aid
  • Flashlights, batteries, and charging
  • Weather radio and local alert enrollment

Turn gaps into one next action

Estimates are only as reliable as their inputs. Use PrepperGo runway as a planning signal, then check the assumptions against your household.

Pick one achievable action: label water, replace an expired item, print the contact plan, test a radio, or add nutrition details to the foods that matter most. Repeat monthly.
